Traction

Now and then I have trouble getting started.  Usually I have a theme that I examine from every angle, one painting or drawing after another. These days, however, I am having trouble getting traction. Below is the image crept into my sleep, about my predicament.

Another Dream Image

Dream: Today I was lucky enough to have a dream that ended with a pretty good visual image. The rest of the dream wasn’t visual at all. I was at some kind of conference where, as was my usual way at conferences, I stayed pretty much to myself. I did stop to talk with a couple of […]

Marnie-pocalypse

This morning I woke up with the theme to Marnie, one of Alfred Hitchcock’s films. Of all Bernard Hermann‘s music to rouse me to wakefulness, I am thankful it wasn’t the shower theme from Psycho (another Hitchcock film).  Somewhere floating in my semi-conscious state was a vague awareness of a phrase from Apocalypse Now, a film adapted in part, from […]

Last Night’s Dream

It was a good one. I was in the apartment of an old bearded man who was teaching me something of great value. I don’t remember what it was. As I left, walking down a narrow stairway, I realized I had forgotten to ask him something. When I turned around, he had already shut the […]

Choice

Change of pace for today. Circumstances dictate that I take a break from the outer landscape to concentrate on the inner, at least for today. Had a crummy night last night. Dreams. I can’t recall exactly what they were, but I’m sure that some of them had to do with my mother, who died in February […]

Neuro Dream

My dreams have been a bit odd lately, even by my standards. The other night I dreamed that I had an MRI scan and that I was deficient in elemental gold and silver in the region of the caudate and putamen, central gray-matter structures deep inside the brain. The treatment (obviously) was to infuse gold […]

Turbulent Hot and Cold

I tried another watercolor sketch inspired by Untamed Waters, the 1934 work by Paul Klee. The previous sketch from the Residual Ideas post is reproduced below. Unfortunately, I tried to find a link to Klee’s work, but I could not. Today’s watercolor experiment: I began with a sketch of a remnant of a dream I had last night. The […]

Overdrive

In contrast to yesterday’s experiment, I thought a lot about today’s watercolor. Before I continue, I must apologize. When I wrote, The Last Rubber Image, I thought I was done with latex masking fluid. However, I couldn’t resist another whack at it. After all, it was fun dripping and spreading it around. First step So […]
