Vertex

I have always been attracted to textures. I never realized that painted lines on the street of in the parking lot could be so…  thick.  Once I thought I saw lines being sprayed on the street. I suppose that the workmen could use a paint brush if need be. How else could this vertex have […]

Curb with Swatches

Is it coincidental that this curb was located just outside a paint store?  I was on break from my job, looking for interesting ‘found art’. I wonder if a paint store employee was on break once upon a time, and took orange and yellow and painted them at the edge of the sidewalk. Did this […]

Damn Squirrels

Now it could be one or more of them. I can’t tell them apart. But they (or it) like(s) to much on my favorite succulent. I don’t mind that the squirrels eat all the figs, although I do fear for the branches when some of the fatter ones sneak out to the furthest leaf to […]

Pavement Lines

I’m not sure that the photograph below is recognizable as the deteriorating lines painted in a parking lot. To me, it seems the only possibility. Could one see it as an abstract composition?  Probably it could, to someone who has not looked at parking lot lines very closely.

Memory and Painting

Matisse, his Notes of a Painter he does not endorse working purely from nature or purely from imagination. He states, “… I think that one can judge the vitality and power of an artist who, after having received impressions directly from the spectacle of nature, is able to organize his sensations to continue his work in […]

Confusing Intersection

I was in the same area where I caught the work of a somewhat sloppy graffiti artist (see Off the Mark). The spray paint must have been the work of the same person. However, thinking outside the box, or drawing outside the lines is sign of originality and creative thinking. Three canvases were available: sidewalk, […]

Rescued Cacti

For the longest time, the bowl of cacti sat by the side of the house. Most of the other plants in my cactus/succulent garden had died. I thought the cacti were dead too. They were half submerged in the dirt, gray looking, no green anywhere. I put the round pot back in the sunlight on […]

Big Ben in Chalk

My grandson has an obsession: Big Ben. His waking hours are devoted to drawing and building models of Big Ben, tinkering with clocks, drawing clock faces and dreaming about visiting the real Big Ben in England. Here is one of William’s chalk Big Bens:

Sketches

Rough drive back home. Made great time for about 300 miles then, out of nowhere, the road was like a parking lot. The rest of the trip took forever, and I’m beat. I say this by way of apology for not posting a new watercolor. I made a number of attempts to sketch William, my […]
