Man with Bare Foot Under Other Leg

I first noticed this gentleman’s haircut. His head was shaved on the sides; the hair on the top of his head was longer and shaped like a peak. I noticed one sandal on the floor and the man’s toes visible on the chair under his other leg.

Man with Cool Hat Pondering the Screen

I flipped through a book about sketching on the go. Each drawing spanned two pages of a hard-bound sketch book.  I decided to do that from this point on. I’ve noticed a couple of things since I started using that format: 1) There is a lot more space to draw; 2) Figures are larger and […]

Niece and Two Aunties

I don’t know the actual relationship among the people I portrayed below. It just seemed that one was the niece and the others were her aunts. I hope I caught the relationship as I saw it.

Portrait of Waiting Person in Context

This year I have been concentrating on drawing portraits of individuals or groups of people who are waiting. My sketches have been mostly close-ups that focus on body language or gesture. Today, I expanded my scope to give the viewer an idea of the surroundings.

Portrait of Young Woman Reading Aloud

Here is a portrait of the young woman from yesterday’s ‘action reading’ sketch. It is cartoonish, but captures her essence; at least, my interpretation of her spirit

Reading a Very Difficult Passage

One of the highlights of my time at work is when a group of special visitors comes into the store with a care giver.  They typically range from nonverbal to conversational. I love to help them, and begin a conversation, when possible. Today, I welcomed a small group as they came in.  To my, “Hello, […]
