Girl Reading Cell Phone While Waiting
Yesterday, I posted a series of small, quick studies of a young lady reading her cell phone in a waiting room. Below is a more careful sketch of the same person.

I think the last thing on this person’s mind was the cane.
When I saw this older gentleman reading a magazine I was struck by how self contained he was. Compact. His dark shirt did not show one speck of lint.
One usually doesn’t see more that three people sitting together in the cafe at the bookstore; and they are usually silent. So when I saw three tables pushed together, with at least 6 characters gathered around, I took notice. It was lovely when one of them began to read aloud.
Sometimes waiting is not a passive game.
If you can avoid it, avoid emergency rooms on Mondays. But any time you walk through the ER doors, this is where your wait begins… (Note: one way to avoid this is to come via ambulance.)
Here is a woman waiting for her hairdresser. She has already been enrobed. More work would improve this sketch: darker darks (especially on the robe). This would pop the figure out of the low-contrast background.
This is another medical waiting room picture. The man does not seem to be as sick as the lady from the other day. At least he wasn’t doubled over.
I’m not sure if this is an accurate depiction of the real man. I was not limited by a coffee or lunch break; I had all the time in the world to do this drawing, and concentrated on shading and detail.
When scale and resemblance fail, creative naming comes to the rescue.
