Red Standpipe
Most of the standpipes that I photograph look the same. I came upon a different one today. (See Standpipe Portrait, Colorful Fireplugs, Yellow Hydrant Sculpture, Fire Plugs.) I guess I like it because it’s nice and shiny.

I’m always on the lookout for fire suppression equipment. Today was a bonanza. I found a fireplug AND a standpipe right next to each other. The fire department doesn’t have to go far to hook up.
Are you going to believe your own eyes or the sign on this hydrant? This “open” hydrant is secured with a padlock!
From whom is this hydrant hiding? Hopefully not the fire department.
I can’t resist bright shiny things. Bright yellow things will do just as well, however. I could not resist taking a snapshot of this wonderful fire hydrant. I’m sure it was designed to attract attention of the fire department should they need a standpipe.
I have a series of photographs of fireplugs, also known as fire hydrants or standpipes. (Fire Plugs, Fireplugs, the Beginning, Shiny Standpipe, What Luck!) This is one outside a mall in Burbank, California USA.
I’m always on the lookout for interesting things to photograph. Shiny things are on the list. I am particularly attracted to fire plugs as sculpture. I have an extensive series of photographs and drawings of fire hydrants and other water distribution systems. Here are some of my posts featuring fire plugs and standpipes: Fireplugs, the Beginning, What Luck!, […]
Today’s experiment: Today, my experiment combines my love for fire hydrants (Fire Plugs, Concentration, What Luck! Fun with Pipes) with my recent fascination with graffiti. The fire hydrant itself is a cast iron work of art. Placed in front of a white brick wall in an urban setting this hydrant could have provided an apt foreground for […]
I stayed off my feet for most of the day, but I did venture out for a bit. I had to get my crutches and do some other errands. I was disappointed for the most part. Did you know that you can’t go to the pharmacy drive-up window and give them a prescription for crutches? […]
We had a great time in LA, especially taking Sidra to the American Girl store. She was trembling with excitement the whole time we were there. We all had a wonderful time celebrating her 10th birthday. While she, Nanna, Mom, Dad and Auntie Sarah and Uncle Ted were perusing the doll paraphernalia, I took some time […]
