Pen and Ink Series #13: Impact, LA, 2025
I fell on my hip a couple of weeks ago (I’m ok now). My leg turned colors down to my knee.

I like to start at the top of the page, drawing my line in a curve toward the bottom. The rest of the process is a matter of balance.
When I go to bed each night I pay attention to the images that form in front of my closed eyes. Across the dark background there are strands of light, and dark patches that sometimes coalesce into recognizable faces or other images. Last night I saw the letter, omega, and a small cross-hatched grid. I […]
I started with the idea of applying a set of rules to determine where to draw the branches and how long to make them. I abandoned that idea as restrictive and not that interesting. For the remainder of the ‘trees’ I drew the branches in a way that seemed pleasing to me. [Note: the growth […]

Why would a black and white line drawing named ‘Bruise’? When one thinks of a bruise, one could imagine a riot of colors from all over the spectrum (mainly black and blue – some red and orange perhaps). The patterns of a massive bruise I have on my leg from a fall last week gave […]
I continue to explore my star line drawing together with spiral lines in this drawing. I may have hit a creative block on this theme. While there is probably more to be done with these components, it no longer inspires. I am working with a larger format (7×10″ rather than the 3.5×5.75″ I used in […]
I began this sketch with a curved line and added others that, like the first, ended in the beginnings of a spiral. Lately, I’ve been playing with my star icon, making its lines disappear and re-appear when it intersects with another line in its path. It adds a sense of three dimesionality to the 2D […]
My amazement at the mazes seems to have run its course. Back to the line. I continue this series by beginning with one line which, hopefully will inspire more.
This is a linear maze that is difficult (if not impossible) to traverse due to the ambiguity in the pathways.
