Pen and Ink Series #2: Maze #2, LA, 2025

The maze in this sketch is incidental to the collection of shapes. There may not be enough clearance for the small dark circular shape on the lower left to navigate around these ‘objects’, but more is going on here than the arc of its travel.

Pen and Ink Series #1: Maze #1, LA, 2025

I am out of the 14×20″ 140# cold pressed paper upon which I have drawn more than 50 of my 8-part Meditation Series posts. I start today’s Pen and Ink Series (drawn with Micron pens) on 7×10″, 80 pound, smooth-finish paper. It is more fun to draw in this format for a couple of reasons: […]

Meditation Series: (7/8) Musings with Lines, LA, 2025

I began this one as a maze with straight lines, starting at the lower left. Then I continued with curved lines until the upper right when I made those jagged lines (I had fire in mind, since I live in LA). I inserted my linear “star” icon, choosing to interrupt the rays with the surfaces […]

Meditation Series: (6/8) Musings with Lines, LA, 2025

I first envisioned the warped surface. Since the planar surface brought me into the realm of three dimensions, I also brought my 2-dimensional star figure along. “White noise” comprises the bottom part of this figure, presumably from which the 3-D figures arose.

Meditation Series: (5/8) Musings with Lines, LA, 2025

The first line on the left side of the sketch was perfect. However the second line on the right side was not inspired by the first but rather by another idea I had in mind. They did not go well together. Most of the rest of the drawing, at least on the right side was […]

Meditation Series: (4/8) Musings with Lines, LA, 2025

I began with the line with the ‘V’ about a quarter way up from the bottom to divide ‘up’ from ‘down’. The radiating lines in the upper right came next. I added the (high frequency) lines underneath the dividing line and encased the star-like lines with a concentric standing circular waves. I like the contrast […]

Meditation Series: (3/8) Musings with Lines, LA, 2025

I’ve seen Native American silver pieces of animals with a spiral design inside their bodies. I was told that symbol represented their life force. I began this sketch with such a spiral. I couldn’t imagine an appropriate body for this life force to inhabit, so I left it as it was. I just glanced at […]
