This doorway was under construction in uptown Manhattan when I passed by. Please visit my Etsy shop for my artwork for sale inspired by my autistic brother Mike at: https://autisminspiredart.etsy.com My other artwork for sale is at: https://otherartbyjack.etsy.com
This is a combination doorway sketch and self portrait. My shadow is on the lower right corner, also on the original photo on which this image is based. I’m sure this is not a ghost door. It was probably just locked, since it was November in East Side Park. Please visit my Etsy shop for my […]

Just like in yesterday’s post, I don’t remember the location of this door (and its fake-door companion), but I did make a note that I took the photo on November 3, 1991. I don’t remember where this doorway was. The image on which this pen and ink drawing is based is very dramatic, with very little illumination and low contrast. In fact, the iron work above the abandoned door is barely noticeable in the photograph. This series will feature 8 different doorways from the photos in my archives. Please […]

I love signs painted with gold leaf, outlined in black. They are so classy. This sketch is a detail of the reference photo (taken in 1989) for this series. Luthier (Sam) Rosenthal passed away in 1968, so the shop that bore his name must have been passed down to new owners. I don’t know if his shop still […]
I can only imagine the inside of the violin shop. I used to play the violin and I love the beauty of its sound as well its shape. I don’t remember the name of the street where I took the picture on which this sketch is based, but it might have been Madison or Lexington, near Grand Central. I like the tilt of the street and the horizontal-ness of the storefronts. Please visit my Etsy shop for my artwork for sale inspired by my […]
