Early Watercolors

I was looking through some of the photographs that I took when I lived in New York City. I loved the light at certain times of day and was always on the lookout for interesting shadows and shapes.

I love the organization of the shapes and the light on these particular pipes I passed in late afternoon.

Here is the watercolor I composed based on this photo, not long after I started painting

Watercolor Painting - Sidewalk Pipes in New York City

7″x10″ 140# Cold Pressed Watercolor Block

The purpose of my watercolor painting was different than it is today, when I painted this. I was learning about the paints themselves and wanted to replicate the forms, shapes and shadows from the photograph.
