I knew that I wouldn’t have much time to paint today. We’re going down south tomorrow and I had a full day. Knowing this, before I started my chores, I sat down and thought about the essence of the landscapes I have been painting. I’m not sure if all landscapes fit this formula, but mine seem to have sky (with a cloud or two), trees, a ground line and water.
In my imaginary landscape, I allowed a pair of hills (instead of trees) to inhabit the skyline. The middle ground consists of sawtooth-brushed sawgrass. The water reflects the hills and a bit of the sky. I dotted the slopes with several spots of greenery. I used to see trees like this from the middle of the lake where I used to go fishing.
I’m sure I can abstract this subject a bit more, perhaps even make it recognizable as a landscape.
