I began with purple today. It didn’t go as smoothly as the gray strokes from yesterday. Perhaps it was the paper. I used Arches paper yesterday and Canson, today. Although they were both cold pressed, Arches paper has more of a texture than Canson does. At any rate, the purple didn’t seem to adapt properly to my brush’s moments.
I wanted to complement the purple, so I used phthalo blue under the half-circle. Then I washed the entire paper with vermillion red. I used two types of yellows to brighten some of the areas around the purple figure. This created a nice glow. I re-painted the purple to bring it to the forefront.
