I find pencil much harder than ink. With ink I feel freer–maybe because you can’t revise it, so why not let go? (K)
For me, if I’m trying to render a physical likeness, pencil is the thing. Ink also allows my feelings to come through more. Probably, the freedom you refer to. Thanks, K!
Yes, I think that’s true. Pencil has a subtlety.
But it also can be scaffolding for a more controlled ink drawing (erasable, if one desires).
Many uses. The pencil is one of our best inventions
I agree, Kerfe. Also (off topic though). the substance in a pencil can be used to make graphene sheets (of one atom in thickness), which is an emerging nano material.
