Today’s watercolor experiment:
Most of our excitement was yesterday at the park, including fireworks. Today was very laid back. It was a day where we joined many other Americans in a day of barbecue, beer, beans and other ‘B’-letter-starting foods.
I get very nervous and self conscious drawing other people face-to-face. If they see me sketching, most want to see what I’m doing. Since I don’t consider my people-drawing skills to be top notch, I want to avoid this.
I did a quick sketch of Joy relaxing on the couch. I’m sure she didn’t see me. I wanted to capture her posture rather than to draw a detailed sketch.
The most vexing thing about this composition is the reflection from the pigments coloring the couch. I thought the paint was still wet even hours after I painted it and left it out in the direct sunlight for 30 minutes or so. I bought a new paint called Terra Rosa by M. Graham. Since this company uses honey as one of the ingredients (a binder, perhaps), which may have contributed to the shiny effect.
At any rate, we had a nice 4th of July. I hope you all had a good one as well.
