Fishing Again

I got up at 3:15 AM to go fishing, today. I took a dramamine before bedtime, hoping that it would give me a good start on not being sea sick. I had planned to take another before we went out. I’ll have to talk with my sister-in-law about what was in them besides the dramamine meds. I had the weirdest dreams!

This is what it looked like shortly after we arrived at Moss Landing at about 5:00 AM:

Dawn at Moss Landing

Ain’t life swell?

It isn’t really if the ocean swells like it did this morning. By the time we went out, I had take 3 dramamines.

It didn’t help much, although I was much better than the time I went out unmedicated. I was so sick that time, I was afraid I wasn’t going to die.  However, it was no picnic today. Although they told me I caught a salmon.

Today’s experiment

I must admit, as I write this I am thinking of bedtime. I probably got a little too much sun on my face, which was the only part of me exposed, and I’m not feeling that great.

However I did want to share with you another sketch of Arthur, my pet avocado plant, who seems to be recovering from an initial transplant mishap. When I was preparing my previous watercolor sketch about Arthur’s new growth, I tried a second sketch. I planned this one to show, not only the new growth, but some of the other leaves that weren’t doing so well.

Here is the first stage:

Watercolor Sketch - Arthur, Growth in Context -1

Growth in Context 1
12″x9″ 140# Cold Pressed Watercolor Block

You can see that I used latex masking fluid on the veins, which was the most eye-catching feature of the scene.

Second stage:

Since the scale of this painting is larger than the previous one, I was comfortable with the idea of fitting in some of the lower parts leading up to the newly growing leaves.

watercolor Sketch - Arthur, Growth in Context -2

I am not finished with this sketch yet. It looks like a stalk of corn at this point. I am sure that when I’m finished it will look like the tip of an avocado tree.

I’m sure that discussion of this watercolor sketch will still be valid at a later time.

And now, to bed.
