I loved looking at this building and was sad when it was taken down for a new, ugly store. I wondered if it looked across at an Opera House, which used to be on 14th Street at the turn of the 20th century.

Too many lost. I wish I had a photo of that wonderful turreted building on 72nd and Broadway that is now an ugly apartment building with a Trader Joe’s.
The Ansonia? It’s gone?
Not the Ansonia…the colonial club on the SW corner

A friend of mine used to work in there…now his office, if it ever reopens, is in a glass building in midtown. And Trader Joe’s and a faceless apartment building are on that corner.
I’m glad the kept the Ansonia. I’ll have to check to see if I photographed the SW corner.
Yes, one of those buildings that you could always dream of living in. I’m not sure if it is landmarked–I hope so. They have been adding large areas of the upper west side as more and more tall ugly glass buildings get built.
Excellent. I hope that many of the good old buildings are preserved.
