Signifying Nothing

I started today by trying to sketch a two dimensional representation of a hyperbolic parabola. When I was a kid, my dad brought me a fiberglass model of this shape. He told me that it had the same form as that of a saddle.

Unfortunately, my sketch didn’t work as I intended.

I used my compass to draw circular rings broken up by the grid I had established. Then I painted them in bright colors.

With the abandonment of my original idea, I just painted the shapes inside the grid. The only organizing principle was to use the same color in the shapes connected in checkerboard fashion.

Other than a failure to fulfill the original intent, the study below does not signify anything.
