With the new year comes new things to try.
Today’s watercolor experiment:
I bought a couple of pads of Yupo ® watercolor “paper”. It is has a very smooth surface, similar to a hot pressed paper. It is not paper at all, however. It is plastic.
I was a bit disappointed with it. The pigments just sit on top of the surface. Perhaps I don’t know the best way to use it but watercolors certainly don’t flow in the same way as they do on real paper. Colors seem to mix with each other well. It is as if interaction with the paper is taken out of the watercolor painting experience.
Below is my test of this paper.
In laying down blobs of paint, I noticed an embryo-looking form. I took a cue from that and painted double helixes throughout the composition.
