Cloudscape

Today’s watercolor experiment:

Another fictive cloudscape.

I laid down my blues and grays as I did in the previous (Warmup – Clouds) post. I had much more room than in each of the 4 panels in which I performed my studies. With more room, a better understanding of the overall sky is needed. The clouds I tried to portray were massive, given the scale, indicated by a very low-lying horizon. The sky takes up most of the picture.

Since the sky I imagined above does not come from a very rigorous study of natural clouds, it is possible that my scale is off, that large clouds like this doe not form high in the sky, that they don’t nestle into each other as shown.

I have plenty of cloud pictures somewhere in my photo archives. It might be worthwhile to make an entire book of clouds and cloud cover that I have observed in the past: a cloud image library, to be combined with scenery at will.
