Today’s watercolor experiment:
Yesterday, I presented my schematic sketch of the entirety of an auto repair shop structure based on a photo I took from the side (diagonally across the street, so I could fit most of it in the frame) and two photographs from the front.
I was fascinated to find this out-dated, arched structure in modern (1990s) New York City. This is my rendition of the side arch along with the requisite graffiti:
The main gate is more functional (and decorated). I love the fact that the entrance to the garage leads down. On the rare occasions that the door was open, I remember seeing the dirt floor.



These paintings are really capturing a spirit of time and place. Some of these structures have survived…but not enough of them. (K.)
Yes. Unfortunately, Baruch College is now where the auto repair shop was. There was also a filling station built into the side of a building on Lex and 25th when I used to live there. Don’t know if I have any pictures of that. Thanks for writing, K.
