Update on Madge

I started a series of abstracts about a visually challenged triangular woman named Madge. In the post, Comfort Zone, subtitled, Madge is About to Get the Point, Madge is walking gingerly, not quite used to her white cane. Unbeknownst to her, there is a triangular obstruction directly in her path, pointed at her eye. I repost (an enhanced version) of that watercolor below:

After she got injured, her husband was very, very upset. The second watercolor captured his reaction in the post, Grief:

Today’s watercolor experiment:

The saga of Madge continues in today’s watercolor study. After numerous hospital visits, Madge’s eyesight was restored. In the watercolor, she is ecstatic, dancing for joy. Her husband, while also very happy, doesn’t show it. Although he was transformed from his grieving form, he is still worried, thinking of what else could go wrong.

Comment:

I had fun with this. I particularly like the gamboge yellow color and the way it blends with cadmium red. This side of the painting matches Madge’s light mood. Her husband, whom I have yet to name, is a bit on the blue side. I tried to match the background with his emotional state. Since I washed the whole paper with gamboge, the bit of Prussian blue I applied to his side of the watercolor combined to make a greenish hue. His space is a bit cubistic even though he is mainly made up of triangles. The desk that he is leaning on is composed of a very dark blue (indanthrone). I was going to draw an empty thought bubble over his head, but instead opted for an off white collection of squares (pigment: Titanium Buff). Hopefully that accomplished the same idea as would the presentation of a traditional, comic book thought bubble.

I hope to come up with more about Madge and her husband, should another occasion arise in which I need them.
