Today’s watercolor experiment:
Today’s watercolor sketch is called Abstract 9214 because, unlike other my other nonrepresentational studies, the blots, glazes and latex-resist-formed shapes did not bring any coherent idea to mind. Maybe it was just an off day.
I began by pouring masking fluid on the paper. After drying, I wet the entire paper and washed the upper portion with Prussian blue and the bottom with aureolin yellow. I dried the paper and repeated the process.
After removing the resist, I painted in the lower white shapes it uncovered, with Spectrum Red gouache and the middle shapes with lemon yellow. The upper shape was filled with quinacridone purple and permanent mauve.
Everyone has a bad day now and then.
