Beach from the Shade

Only part of me was in shade when I drew this little scene. I had to cover my sketching hand with a napkin to avoid getting sun burned. We were lucky to have an umbrella. Some of the tables didn’t have them.

I enjoyed sketching the figures at the remote tables. The trick to drawing people who are far away, and serve only as visual elements, is to capture gesture and posture, while getting body-part proportions correct.
