Before I introduce today’s watercolor, I must comment on yesterday’s.
The title of yesterday’s study is ‘Reverting’. I thought that my child-like scrawling of a cat was a trip down fantasy lane to childhood (unclear if it was mine). I joked that the book I was reading, Psychoanalytic Explorations in Art, might explain repressed memories. Boy is my face red! I didn’t even notice the phallic symbol in the middle of my composition. Dr. Freud must be laughing in his grave.
Today’s watercolor:
After wetting my paper and washing in red and yellow iron oxides and nickel quinacridone, added one of my favorite colors, terra rosa. It brushed on very smoothly. I painted four curved strokes to set up boundaries on the paper. I added cadmium red light to accentuate the terra rosa strokes and lemon yellow, to complement the fish- (or lobster-) like shape at the center.
