At the Dentist

I went to the dentist today.  Normally they don’t give me sunglasses to wear, but they said there could be some splashing. I tucked away my regular glasses and donned the wrap-around, movie star specs.

I couldn’t see far, but I tried to reproduce what I did see, in today’s watercolor. There were two sets of eyes behind their own protection; one hand, gloved in pink holding a high speed drill (which I didn’t see, but heard and felt in my bones); a surgical light suspended between the two faces that were peering at me, or rather, the tooth under excavation.

It was a full sensory experience. The sense of pain calmed after a second dose of anesthetic. The pair of eyes on the left worked the occasional stream of water that she would squirt on the tooth. I think she did it to put out the fire that the drill seemed to be producing. I could smell something burning and see the smoke rising.
