I introduced my grandson, William, to watercolors today. Being 2+ years old, he has an affinity to water. My role in guiding his creativity was to minimize splashing, and applying a dab with a paper towel to the unavoidable water slicks on the table.
I was surprised that he covered the entire surface of the paper, without any prompting. I started him with a dark blue. Although I cringed a little when he forced the brush against the grain, I did not interfere. He reached for the yellow ocher, but I intercepted him, just to clean the brush. He seemed to like the effect of the yellow on the blue.

Another artist in the family! Extraordinarily good.
Thank you, Sarah. He’s a lot different than other kids I’ve shown watercolor to. I’ll forward the sentiments to Will!

🙂 Well done, William!
Thanks, Dr. V! He does seem to have a feel for it. It was very interesting watching his process. I’ll pass your compliment along to Will.
