The photographer reveals himself in this image by virtue of the shadow of his camera in the frame. In the two dimensional world of Flatland, surely philosophers and scientists have developed theories to explain the phenomenon of transient dark patches in their world. There might be a Flatland philosopher (of an n-sided polygon class (where ‘n’ is a very high number) or even of the circle class) who argued that the true reality of the nature of Flatland cannot be known, posing an allegory similar to Plato’s Cave. [I have no clue how that could be done in the 2-D world, but the higher-faceted polygons are very smart.]
