The underlying pen and ink work includes rough impressions of Horseweed, Lady Slippers, a chain-link fence, and the texture of tree bark. I applied the watercolors, first with red at the center of the flower cluster with a yellow surround. I echoed this with a purple-white transition in the mid-to-lower section of the piece. Outlining some of the bark texture lines organized some to the visual features into abstract shapes. I like the warm outlines at the top of the composition, with cooler colors at the bottom.
