I’m trying to change my color palette from the previous series, which was on the cooler side, consisting of greens, blues and earth tones. Today I used four different textures to underpin the watercolors. The horseweed plants are distinguishable but the others (chain links of a fence, spines of a cactus and gnarly bark of a tree) blend together. The overall tone of this piece is on the hot side, with reds and purples dominating. I thought that I could make certain sections stand out, but the final result is more or less homogeneous.
