I applied transparent glazes over my original wash of color. I don’t remember my original underpainting and the layering is now so dense that I can’t properly make it out. I used some masking fluid to preserve some of the penultimate layer. Then my trusty dip pen did its duty in tracing some of the edges of paint fields still visible through the top layer.
I think I stopped just shy of over working this piece
There’s something very tree-like about this…were you thinking of the photo? (K)
No, K, can’t say I was thinking of the photo. Probably, the tree-sense of it comes from the horizontals in one layer (roots), the verticals in another and the dip pen randomly emphasizing different edges. I also included a negative layer facilitated by latex resist which traced out the outline of a rudimentary face. I’m glad it wasn’t obvious. (probably more than you wanted to know about this piece).
Cheers,
J
I’m always interested in your process! Not too much at all.
Nice of you to say, K. Thank you.
