I’m not very big on looking for signs to guide me, being an existentialist. However, I do stop at stop signs and stop lights when I’m driving; when it’s cloudy, I say, “Looks like rain,” just like everyone else; I don’t touch the stove if the red light indicates that the element is still hot. I may be an existentialist, but I’m not stupid.

One thing to note: even though my older brother is autistic, and I probably have some latent autistic traits, when I cross the street and the sign blinks from ‘Walk’ to ‘Don’t Walk’, I continue walking until I get to the other side.

I pay attention to certain words and wordings that flow by me in the daily flood of text. It’s not all good. Most of it comes to my attention to when it proclaims an idea to which I subscribe. Pictured below is a good example.

Since I have a hard time editing, de-cluttering and minimizing the number of my possessions, I must subconsciously be on the lookout for positive reinforcement of my natural tendencies. I suppose it is a sub-corollary of the saying, “To a man with a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail.” I can’t say exactly what the relevance of this phrase is to my tendency to look for validation of my way of thinking, but I am sure there is some. Besides, if you haven’t heard it before, it is a pretty apt and astute saying, that stands on its own. But I digress.

Once in a great while, I come across a message in my environment that seems to speak directly to me philosophically. It is not on same level as a voice in my head telling me what to do, or the meaning of life. I’ve actually never experienced that, but from what I understand, it is commanding. No, just a relevant message I come across completely out of the blue.
