These are people on the subway platform (at 68th Street) in NYC. I sketched them from a photo I took. It is (or at least, it was for me at that time) daunting to take photos of people in such a confined space. Recall that cell phones were not the device of choice to take photos in 1989 (and I didn’t even have one then). A camera, with only one purpose was necessary. Most people are camera shy, especially in subways.
