We had just moved to LA. Covid uncertainty was all around. We spent most of the time by ourselves in our new apartment. Haircuts were in short supply. My ‘Self-ish Portrait‘ is based on this photo.

Now I remember: I took the picture in January 2021. In LA, at that time, shop owners were worried about possible riots connected with the January 6, so the boarded up their storefronts. Nothing to do with Covid.
That happened after the election, too, here. It may be needed again, sadly…
Sure hope not, but perhaps the spell is lifting.

Well, you know, I cut his hair, so I think he was extra brave. And I’ll say he was a much better hairdresser than I was.
