Underlying the watercolors is an ink sketch of some thick pine bark. I overlaid the outline of a lady slipper flower formation on the bark to create a complex of textures. The water soluble black ink ran when I applied the watercolors (which accounts for some of the muddiness in the piece). All things considered, I am happy with the final composition.
