I was struck by all these leaves sprouting from a central point. At first I thought there were 8 leaves, but when I started to sketch I saw the 9th hiding behind the others. I would have expected the name of the tree to have some kind of reference to 9, maybe in Latin, like ‘nona’-something. However, the name of this plant is Heptapleurum Actinophyllum. This confuses me because hepta means 7.
