The past couple of years have enveloped me in a strange web: loss of a loved one; COVID isolation; loss of place, having relocated twice; and change in self identity as I am about to enter my 7th decade.
I show the image below as one of a series of abstract portraits of Mike, who, as those of you who have been following me for a while know, is my older brother, who is autistic, nonverbal and low functioning. This series was completed 6 years ago when I felt that I had no more ideas to visually depict Mike and my relationship with him.
I am emerging from my funk and have just started going to art museums and reading about art of abstract expressionists. This has sparked some ideas and I hope I can incorporate them into some new work, to take up where I left off.

I look forward to seeing your new work. Time passes and we keep going, I guess, and find new reasons to do so, though it’s not easy. I feel similar to you, I think, being in my 60’s and entering new chapters while making peace with the past ones. And some threads continue. Your art and photos, I’ll be interested to see! I took an online class where we studied German expressionism. I wonder if you might like them too.
Thanks, Claudia. I appreciate your interest and support over the past number of years. My art will be changing (notwithstanding today’s post) by the fact that Mike passed away about an hour ago – depending on my ability to process.

I still feel adrift from all my recent moves–but I finally located your paintings in storage and hung them up where they give me pleasure every day. I too look forward to your new work. (K)
