I remember when I saw the 1956 movie The Harder They Fall. Humphrey Bogart was a fight reporter who got in bad with Rod Steiger who was hoodwinking a poor schnook of a boxer, a huge guy who couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag. I had just started working at the Manhattan VA, and was flabbergasted when I saw the bad guys dump Bogey at the flagpole of the place where I work.
This parking lot no longer exists. It was replaced by an Outpatient Clinic. I loved it when the world was in black and white.
I enjoy a good black and white photo as well.
Yes, they can simplify one’s vision.
Great photo!!
I just wrote a post about the filming locations of “Harder” https://nycinfilm.com/2020/08/25/the-harder-they-fall-1956/ and couldn’t quite figure out when the new building went up. I estimated the construction period to be somewhere between 1986-1990. Do you know the exact year? Thanks!
Thanks, Mark. I have photos of the demolition, beginning construction dated May 1989.

Wondering if it would be possible if you could share one of those photographs so I could post it on my “Harder They Fall” article. I would of course give you full credit and a link to your website.
Sure Mark!
