There is a harmony and completeness to this photo. The colors belong together, and the crackly edges repeating, leaf and ground. I really love this one.
I am of the belief that you saw it when you took the photo, but in the larger scheme, you did not realize it, but that in taking the picture, somewhere something inside you felt or recognized it. I think that is the magic of art and/or photography. The serendipity, as you say, of all the elements and how they make their impression on us. I really like this photo a lot.
