Face Too Big For Hair

The hair is rendered masterfully, if you look at it by itself.  I’m not sure how I managed to draw the face so out of proportion. It would have been a matter of just a couple of millimeters from the receded hairline to the beginning of the forehead. But I moved the pen point a bit too far from just above the ear, the end of the hair contour.

Did my unconscious mind give more weight to this persons face, dictating its large dimension? I don’t think so. It wasn’t that remarkable a face. But who knows what goes on below the surface in one’s head.
