Edgeless

The biography of Leonardo DaVinci that I am reading, has a passage that tells about his revelation that there are no lines in nature. Leonardo explained that there is an “infinite gradation of shades and blending of them, which does not allow precise borders.”*  Apparently, Leonardo studied and wrote quite a bit about shadows and his skills with shading his drawings and paintings are without parallel.

My immersion into the DaVinci biography and consequently his works of art have made me think of my own studio as a kindergarten sand box, with me a kindergartener. Perhaps I should not think of Leonardo as I scrape my paintbrush across my watercolor paper.

However, I did experiment with edgelessness in my study below .
