the calendar to April, even though the month is half over. My calendar displays a Paul Klee painting for every month. My composition today was based on the Klee painting for April (a detail of Necropolis).
I sat on the porch looking out at the back yard. I sketched caricatures of the potted plants and the trees in behind them. I then drew parallel lines up to the outlines of the figures.
I painted blue strips at the top of the paper, gradually darkening them until I changed to green. Just below the pots, I changed again to brown.
Within the tree outlines I drew free-form squiggles to represent the leaves.
I really like this composition. Breaking up the space with parallel lines is an approach that has a lot of possibilities.
Very Paul Klee. I like it! If you haven’t already, you might like to read my post about Klee: https://firstnightdesign.wordpress.com/2014/09/01/first-night-design-me-paul-klee-and-scleroderma/
I like that background too! (K)
Thanks, Kerfe. A crude imitation of Klee.

Very nice! I really like how you represented part of your backyard in this painting. 🙂
Thank you, Paige. I appreciate that.
