It must have been something I ate last night. I had a hard time swallowing and breathing last night and most of the day. I had planned another go at a Kandinsky-esque rule-based composition in my ‘time’ series, but I just didn’t have it in me. Today was more of a Paul Klee day. Klee’s attitude toward composition (in part) was that process was more important than rules and that the role of the artist is to ‘make [internal feelings] visible’.
Today’s watercolor experiment:
Before I gargled with salt water, I had two big bumps on either side of my neck. I represented these by two red blobs. They could also represent my lungs, which transmitted the erroneous (and painful) message that I was breathing Arctic air.
After masking a square area, I washed the paper with cadmium orange. After it dried, I washed the orange with lemon yellow. I removed the masking material and painted the white square blue, the complement of orange.

The square cannot pass through the throat created by the space between the two red blobs. I drew jagged lines on the surface of the blobs to emphasize the roughness.
Hopefully, tomorrow I can continue my quest for rules with which to organize visual elements, ala Kandinsky.

I love Abstract Expressionism and Expressionistic Abstraction and Tractionless Abspressionism and Kandinsky, Pollock, Frankenthaler et al! Kidding. Genuinely enjoy your work. Two things: 1, Thank you kindly for enjoying my posts; and 2, I lived in the Arctic and I actually don’t recall the air having been hard to breathe at all! Thank you, Liz. I appreciate your comment. I was just guessing at the Arctic thing, as I start coughing when I breathe air below freezing (hence my location in California).
I do enjoy your posts and honestly don’t know how you cope so well. As far as your latest goes, I agree that a developing child should not be on psychiatric or off-label treatments as a rule of thumb. I also agree that Big Pharma is the devil.
